These days, it is not necessary to subscribe to magazines or go to the library to find information you are looking for.  You can find a short article by simply browsing the internet.  There are literally millions of them to browse through on millions of websites on the internet.  All the information you need is now available at your fingertips from the comfort of your living room or from anywhere in the world for that matter if you own a laptop!  Due to this newer technology and the fact that people are hungrier for information than they have ever been, there is a need for people to write and submit this information to online publishers so they can get that information to the public.  This is where writers come into the picture.

Never before in history has the job of being a writer been easier than it is today.  It is rare that you have to type a document and send it by snail mail and wait months, sometimes over a year for a reply only to receive a rejection letter after all that time.  Today, there is so much need for content that if your article is good and provides information that is useful to readers, there is a much better chance it will be accepted in today’s publishing world.  Sending manuscripts has never been easier when most editors now accept content by email and usually respond within days or, at most, weeks.

Writing a short article may seem simple, but if you are a writer, you know it is easier said than done!  Here are some things to consider when writing articles that are short:

1)    Write what you know.  In other words, write about things that you are familiar with, things you have done and make sure you write about something you are interested in and something you want to write about.  Writing about something you are not familiar with or are not interested in will ensure that your article does not have the heart and soul poured into it that it should and it that will show in your writing.
2)    Write and write about your topic until you cannot write anymore and than edit until you have all the main points you want to cover and it meets the guidelines laid out by the editor or publisher to whom you are submitting.
3)    Avoid spelling and grammatical errors in your work.  Make use of your dictionary and thesaurus and use proper fonts and formatting.
4)    Back up your work in case you have to go back to it or edit it again at the editor’s request.
5)    It is hard to condense a lot of information into a small article but it can be done.  Delete words that are redundant or have no meaning to a sentence.  Get rid of anything that is not pertinent to the topic.

Writing short articles for a living or for fun is a great way to make some extra cash and to do something you know you enjoy doing in your free time!
